Marquesas Islands - Travel Journey

Kaoha, (Hello in Marquesan language )

After I have spent more than one month on my favorite island - Moorea in French Polynesia, I made a decision to move to the more far, remote, wild islands - Marquesas Islands. But this time with a really different transport - sailing boat. Ou yesss, a new experience in my life is waiting for me. And I am ready to catch it.

It has been my first sail experience in the middle of the South Pacific ocean. I have been sailing with a 60 years old captain, "sea dragon" Fred from France :) I write that he is from France because people from France are always more kind of special for me... Anyway, more lessons = more experience :)

I can say that sailing communities are the most special people I ever met. These people living on the sea not just for a holiday, week or the month, but they live on their boats for 10, 20, more YEARS !!

I can say that sailing communities are the most special people I ever met. These people living on the sea not just for a holiday, week or the month, but they live on their boats for 10, 20, more YEARS !!

The first Island, where we stop after two days of sailing from Tahiti, was in the Tuamotus. Exactly we stopped for one night in a small island - TOAU.

https://sk.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toau

Tuamotu whose name means “offshore islands” is composed of 78 atolls trapped inside their lagoon by a coral reef. The most visited atolls are Rangiroa, Tikehau and Fakarava. This archipelago has 900 km ² of emerging land in total. The Tuamotu, like the majority of the Polynesian islands, has a tropical climate all year round.
Fred (captain) knew a local family, so we spent a peaceful night with them. They were so surprised that I didn't want to eat langust, crabs, or even the fish...because I am vegan, so I ate the coconut, hmm, no problem :)

The flora of these islands is not very diversified because of the coral which only allows subsistence agriculture. However, vanilla is somewhat farmed. The main cultures are yams, Taro, Uru (fruit of the breadfruit tree), and you can find other tropical fruits... but the reality is that  if you want to live more than a month there, you need to eat fishes, because in another way, you will be eating a coconut with coconut. At these Islands are not opportunities to grow any vegetables.

The next morning we start sailing.

After the next 5 days of sailing we arrived to Nuku Hiva Island, Taiohae bay, which is well known bay in Marquesas Islands. First month I have been living on the boat in this beautiful bay surrounded by tropical mountains. It was like in the dream.
After I decided for a change. My decision was to live deep in the land - "Fenua"...my heart has been calling me for a new adventure to discover and to film the beauties of the valleys, mountains and of course beaches :)

In these islands you can find all the tropical fruits on every step - like
Pamplemousse, bananas, cocos, avocados, papayas, and also ananas or water melon.

the biggest avocados I ever seen in my life :)
